Spend one night here, just passing through. Its a cheap place to stay, but the beds were comfy. Room and corridors were smelly though, not to mention the bathroom. We also had the misfortune of having very loud neighbours who woke us up at 3am and kept talking really loud for almost an hour. Beakfast was good, certainly plenty of it. All in all, the hitel fitted our needs, but I would not stay here for more than one night.

I booked this place as it seemed a good price with the free breakfast, and we came down to see friends. We got here in the evening due to a long drive. There was no parking other than Asda car park. There were steps to the property. The hotel looked worn, dark and very dated. The receptionist was helpful enough, gave us our key to the room and the front door. We had the furthest room possible, which wasn't great with all the stuff we had to carry. The room had a musty smell, the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was old and with a shower fitting on the taps. There were tea and coffee making facilities, and a hairdryer. Big TV, we didn't use it . We did have some lads banging the back door at night in the room opposite us, but they were apologetic. When I wanted to raise issues with reception, no one was there, and there was a sign to go into the bar area, but it was a little busy. The breakfast was served in the bar area, which was dark and very dated. The bread was a loaf of hovis and all the juice in jugs. The breakfast was cooked in the kitchen behind the bar, and was nice enough. But no offers of if anyone has allergies etc. There was no real care for our kids, just assumed they wanted cereal. So, overall not a great experience, probably more ideal for solo travellers needing a place to sleep.

We stayed here Easter weekend and have to say it was a lovely room with very comfy beds ,clean , but could do with a change of decor but that didn't take from our stay ,the breakfast was included and was delicious and the staff were pleasant, we were at the back on the top floor of the Hotel and even though it was a busy weekend for the hotel and bar we didn't hear any loud music ,the only thing we heard was 2 pigeons arguing in the early hours of the morning ( how dare they 🤣🤣🐦⬛🐦⬛) The only thing that was a minor problem was no lift . Would recommend this Hotel .

Welcome to the 80’s. The 1880’s. This hotel still uses keys. Real keys. The pub attached to the hotel is grotty and everything is old. At least the room was clean. The mattress I slept on probably had seen many better days. Years ago.

Good full English breakfast. Nice bar. Friendly helpful staff. Cleanliness of room excellent. Nice view from window. Lots of amenities nearby. Buses also nearby. Chinese restaurant and fish & chip do delicious meals.

The venue is excellent value for money. Friendly welcome, helpful staff. Fresh cooked breakfast to order. Rooms clean upon arrival and daily service. Nothing negative to report about any aspect. First visit but already booked again for December. Highly recommended

Welcomed by friendly lady on reception.Room was large and spotlessly clean with everything we needed,tea,coffee,biscuits,hair dryer and tele. Nice en suit. A nice breakfast every morning.The whole visit was incredible for the price we paid

The hotel is correct, good value for what you pay. Breakfast is cooked on the go- authentic English breakfast. You can park very close to the hotel for free, it is super safe, there are convenience stores and even a large supermarket nearby. The plane has live music over the weekend- on Saturday. There is a good pub nearby too to have dinner. I would recommend renting a car to explore the area as it is scenic and very interesting.

Had bedbugs in our bed. After giving a complaint they said first we are sorry for the inconvenience. Later someone heard me complain and the went inside to talk to the manager because they where scared about the situation themselves. So staff came and given us the news that we are getting fully refunded.
For me it felt more like a motel then a hotel.. Location was nice you can only travel by taxi there... Happy to get the money back but would not stay there again.

Dusty overpriced rooms, nothing to do in SWF and 2 car parking spaces in the hotel car park.
Beautiful building but inadequate parking and facilities for such a large amount of rooms
I am actually shocked that the owners have the cheek to say that there's free parking at the hotel, should be done for false advertising.
One car we didn't see move the whole 2 nights/3 days we were there
The staff are some of the rudest individuals I have ever met, barely speak a word of English and look at me like I'm stupid when I'm asking simple questions.
Terrible stay, terrible experience, terrible staff, terribly overpriced, rude staff, dusty room and the biggest joke of a carpark you've ever seen in your life!

This was a surprisingly good hotel and we were pleasantly surprised after reading some other reviews. We weren't staying on a weekend so didn't come across problems with noise from loud live music so if that would be a problem, I would avoid weekends and stay at this really nice hotel during the week. The room we had was on the second floor (there isn't a lift) and was huge by normal hotel standards. It was clean and smartly decorated. The breakfast was one of the best we've had and we would certainly stay here again. Very handy for getting into Chelmsford that's about a ten minute drive away to the centre.
